So i went to japan recently…. twas very nice indeed. I went with my mother to Yokosuka Japan to visit my brother and his wife. It was kind of a surprise that i was coming, but his wife slipped a bit, and he knew someone was accompanying my mom.

So i flew out to San Francisco and my mom and i played phone tag for about an hour…”where are you?” , “im over here at gate 79″ , “uhhhhhhh”… yeah, thats how it went pretty much the entire hour. So i think we got out of there at 11am, and got to Narita Airport near Tokyo at like 2pm the next day?…. in any case it was just about a 10 hour flight…

Surprised my brother..somewhat… he knew someone was coming with my mom, but didnt quite know it was going to be me… he was like “hahaaaaaaaaa”

When we got out side… “bleeeghhhhhhhhh”… man it was humid… and sticky… have’nt felt that since the Persian Gulf in 1999..After that, we took a 1 1/2 hour bus ride to the Yokosuka Naval Base… very nice base..all of the cities were very clean.. no garbage on the streets anywhere…

Visited all kinds of stuff… the first attraction was the Daibutsu or “Buddah” statue… in a city called Kamakura i believe. I took this picture just before you come around the bend to the statue. Its like you walk around this corner, and “POW” this huge statue is right there all of a sudden.

There were a handful of these stone monuments that were scattered around the park in cool little spots.

Got to eat some real “Ra-men”… when I say real, this was about as real as you can get… went into this little hole in the wall restaurant, that could seat about 7 people around a bar. 1 older Japanese gentleman ran the place, and he whipped up some Ra-men for my brother and I, which was the best Ra-men i have ever had… period.

My brother took us for a cruise around the harbor in one of his patrol boats. Got to see all of the other Japanese ships, and saw my old ship the USS Stethem (DDG 63) that I was stationed on when i was in. The harbor was loaded with jelly fish …glad i didn’t fall of the back of the boat.

Later in the trip I got to catch a Japanese baseball game. The Yokohama Bay Stars -vs- Tokyo Giants…. these freaking games are so much more entertaining that American games. I think if the American fans took some tips from these games, baseball in America wouldn’t be labeled as a “boring” game… these people had drums, trumpets, giant flags, and they sang little chants during the entire game….

Dont get stale. One of the biggest reasons that web sites start to slip in their rankings is because they get stale. What do i mean by stale? The content has not been changed in months. The home page still has the same information it had months ago, no new sitemaps, …nothing.

To let the search engines know that you are dedicated to your site, that is fresh and consistent is to keep adding material, content, and changing copy around. I dont mean, just swap paragraphs. Bring something new to the table… let Google and Yahoo know that you are working diligently to keep you site as fresh as you can. Why do you always check Yahoo and MSN every day, or every couple of hours…?

Because its always fresh news, right?

In addition to keeping your site updated and fresh, keep that sitemap up to date as well. If you add pages, or remove them, you need to let the crawlers know.

SEO is not an exact science, let me get that out first. It is a component of web development that is always changing. There are so many aspects to SEO, and each search engine weighs them differently…just a tad, but they do.

So i am going to start basic, very basic. And this is a little set of tips.

That blue bar at the top that says: Web Designer in Boise

is called the Title. This is specified in your HTML document with the <title>title goes here</title> tag.

The tip? Every page on your site needs to have a unique title tag. This shows that each page has some unique content. In relation, make that title tag relevant to that actual page. If you have a page that is titled “Blue Widgets” dont talk about why red widgets are the hot thing, or orange widgets. Keep it simple, and keep it direct.

So i finally got a chance to get back to Jiu Jitsu training last evening. It freaking felt great to put the gi on again and roll on the mat. Alliance Jiu Jitsu is teaming up with Combat Fitness and have they have a kick ass facility. The mat was of a different material than i am used to, so it was trick to learn right off the bat.

It feels like square one after sitting out for 8 weeks after fracturing my ribs twice! I was in class one night and some guy had me in a leg lock from behind and squeezed the s*** out of me. I just thought it was some deep tissue bruise, or something to that effect. I tried to take it slow in class, and was going good for a while. Then about 8 weeks ago, some guy gave me knee on belly and right on my rib cage. I heard something pop, and shift out of place.

Got some Xrays and the doctor says that this isnt the first fracture. I could actually see calcium rings around my ribs on the film. So what happened the first time was a fracture, which i didnt let heal, then i re-fractured the same ribs right at the same crack…

good one i know.

So, i went to the Gold Fork Hotsprings on Fathers Day. WOW. Thats all i can freaking say. T’was awesome. Took about 2 hours from my house, the entire family and my Ron Bear went for like $42 bucks. All day, sitting in some hot ass natural spring water, gushing right out the side of a rock face. The huge pool was at like 107 degrees, and they trickled down to smaller pools for the kiddies. Those pools came up to the kids knees so we didnt have to worry about them drowning. Realxing. One of the best days i have ever had.
