what and why?
The difference between "development" and "design". Development is the "getting dirty" for web junkies. It involves conceptualization, mapping, foundation design, building, testing, maintenance, and finialization. Im sure you could add a few more in there somewhere, just look at the SDLC and the variations of life cycles. Oh, and dont forget SEO.
Design, is creating the look, the feel, and the imagery of the site. Mock up and grapical representations of the website, if you will. Photoshop junkies live here, which is where i spend a great amount of my time. Some people have a good eye for design, some just wing it.... im somewhere in between i think. Im too much of a perfectionist to come to a final layout... my weakness.

Also known as graphic design. Started working with Adobe Photoshop 6? I think. In any case, i have always had the itch to draw and design. Just in 2001 did i realize that i could take my artistic talents and make them digitized (if thats a real word).
So many styles out there, and so many opinions. Some people like the simplistic, i call, "San Francisco" look, and some take it a step farther. I try not to conform, but i have to give the client what they want. Thats the important part, satisfaction of the client.

Search Engine Optimization. Or better yet, getting your Google rankings up the ladder. I started digging deep into SEO about 2 years ago... I started with an Accounting Software development company who was on page 2-3 for some of their major key terms and phrases.
Through research, forum postings, questions and answers i took that company to a range of the top 3 (server locality played a big part) for their major key phrase... in all search engines. Traffice from their website was at an all time high, and during my stint they had the most sales from the web site in recent memory.... im not the best, but i can get it done.
the biggest myth of SEO is that you can get in the top 10 overnight, and continue to stay there. not gonna happen. SEO takes time, consistent TLC, updates, changes, sitemaps, content, ..etc. Its changing every day, so its important to keep up.
